Goodman Acting School
Goodman Acting School in the Negev was founded in 2005 by Shmulik Yifrach. The school was established in order to be a professional institution for training actors, developing local talents and providing students with the knowledge and tools they need for their future work in the field. In addition, the school seeks to be a cultural and artistic center for the residents of Beersheba and its satellite settlements.
Thanks to the vision and persistence of Shmulik Yifrach, the former director of the Cameri Theater, a former head of the school and director of the Beersheba Theater, and Mayor Rubik Danilovitch, the city’s mayor, the dream became a reality in 2005. Within a short time the school placed itself in the front row alongside other theater institutions in Israel.
The school occupies a historical building first designed for Nahum and David Shabar Community Center. The house, whose design was a milestone in local architecture, is actually a one-story building that rises to two stories and incorporates an inner courtyard. With the opening of Beit Ha'am in 1955, and over the next two decades, the building was bustling with activity. In 1973, Gary Bilu initiated the establishment of a theater in the Negev capital. The community center was then converted into the permanent residence of the Beersheba Municipal Theater.
